In Poland

In Poland, we reach refugees, people who use drugs and other vulnerable people at risk for tuberculosis by integrating tuberculosis information and screening into comprehensive HIV/HCV/STI mobile services in Warsaw.

Poland does not have a high burden of tuberculosis, but still close to 5000 people get sick from tuberculosis every year. It is the country who has received the highest number of Ukrainian refugees with nearly 7 million entering the country, and almost 1,5 million applying for temporary protection. Poland has also over the last few years experienced severe human rights backlashes, especially with regards to the rights of key and vulnerable populations.

The aim of this project is to ensure access to tuberculosis and HIV care for at- risk and vulnerable groups in Poland. The partner organization Foundation for Social Education (FES) have long experience in working with HIV among vulnerable groups, and harm reduction activities, and through this project they will have the capacity to integrate tuberculosis prevention and care for their target population. Barriers in accessing tuberculosis services in the public health system in Poland will be identified and addressed, and tuberculosis screening, user involvement and raising awareness about tuberculosis, are key strategies.

This project is funded by Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care services (2024-2026)
